Why convert this way?
Not every computer has an archive utility installed, and installing one just to open a single file someone emailed you is overkill. Extracting in the browser skips that entirely.
How Fyleon does it
Fyleon reads the archive's directory structure and decompresses its contents locally using WebAssembly-compiled decompression libraries, keeping the archive on your device. For files under 400MB, nothing is uploaded anywhere; the file never leaves your computer. Larger files route through Fyleon's dedicated cloud pipeline, billed against your plan's own monthly quota before any one-time charge applies.
Step-by-step
- Open the Extract Archive tool and sign in (or create a free account — it takes a few seconds).
- Drop your ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, or XZ file onto the upload area.
- Enter the password if the archive is protected.
- Download the extracted files directly to your device.
A note on this conversion
RAR and 7Z can be extracted but not created by Fyleon — that's a permanent format limitation covered in the archive-creation guide, not a bug.
Files processed locally never touch Fyleon's servers, so a file with sensitive or confidential content never leaves your device.
